We woke up at around 10:30am in our Comfort Inn Suite and called down for a late check out. I don’t think the front desk operator ever had that request before, because she didn’t know what a ‘late check our’ was—but agreed on letting us check out at 12:00pm.
We hit the road for “Sugar Shack”- for a little snacks/breakfast for the road. We met the owner and sole employee and she asked about our journey so far. We ended up getting into a 20 minute conversation about travel, work and 9/11 (6 year anniversary), since she opened her shop 6 years ago. She also was convinced that we were “too young” to know where her name ‘Sugar Shack” came from…. And she started singing the song to us… it was really classic. We picked up some homemade cinnamon buns (Cora has some serious competition in Oklahoma!) and other snacks and hit the road.
We grabbed a quick lunch in Oklahoma City, OK and pressed onward to McKinney, just NE of Dallas. Around 6:00pm, we arrived to Dermot’s high school friend Dan’s house. We all caught up on the past two months, since we got to visit with Dan and his family (April, Alyssa & Dylan) in Montreal at Matt Deninger’s Wedding.
After little debate, we decided to head for delicious Mexican food at Petra’s. It was a ‘gourmet’ Mexican street food restaurant with tasty margaritas and flavorful queso…. that Katie could eat everyday….it was sooo good.
We got back to Dan’s house and helped give Dylan a bath, while met and learned about America and Socks…their cats. Due to Sock’s skittishness, he has been ‘hiding’ in the house….and lucky us, he chose the guest room’s box spring.
