We landed in Germany around 9 a.m., picked up our bags and went to the Information desk. Dermot asked if the man at information spoke English and he replied “No, I speak American.” He then informed us that we could leave our bags in storage and head into downtown Munich for the day during our 9 hour layover at the airport. We did just that and took the Subway into downtown. We grabbed lunch at a local restaurant, Andechser am Dom, which did not even have an English menu. Katie had Weiner Schnitzel and Dermot had Meatloaf. It turns out that German meatloaf is really just a loaf shaped big hot dog. The food was okay, but the service (and waitress uniforms) were entertaining and authentic.
We then wandered around the Christmas village (our third!), checked out the Glockenspiel and then used the very modern and tastefully furnished McCafe for free Internet. We got a lot of trip planning done and then rewarded ourselves with a trip to a beer hall. After sampling some of the brews, we got back on the S-Bahn and headed back to the airport. We made some phone calls while we waited to board the plane and then were off on our way to Egypt.
