Day 183-187: Sydney, Australia
After seeing Darwin and Cairns, we were ready to be Sydney Tourists. We spent Jill’s first week in Sydney checking out Potts Point, CBD (Central Business District) where we found Pitt St (pedestrian only shopping area, Dermot’s HEAVEN) and Darling Harbor. We all had a romantic valentine’s day together heading out to Boutique Wine Tour’s Hunter Valley Tour. We checked out several wineries, including Ernest Hill, Iron Gate Estate (hands down our fav), Brokenwood (there’s a reason ‘broken’ is in the name…), Tempus Two, and finally Gartelmann, where we got to taste olive oil as well. We have a fabulous day, met lovely folks from Ireland and England and we got to watch a classic ‘mockumentary’ called Kenny on the way home back to Sydney.
We were lucky enough to be in town the same week as the concert tour Good Vibrations, so we went to see a hip-hop artist named K-OS at musical venue, the Gaelic. We realized that we should have followed the 18+ year old kids wearing ear plugs, as we were all slightly deaf for a few days afterwards—but it was a fun V’day!
TGIF (haha….that’s every day for us!) We dropped off the Robles at work and let Scout play hooky from school and we went off to the beach! Derm played the 9-hole Bondi Beach Public Golf Course, while Scout, Jill and Katie did the 1.5 hour walk from Bondi to Bronte. The beach path was absolutely breathtaking, and Scout kept us on a rigorous workout routine!
Sandra was able to head out of work early, so we swooped her up from the Google office, and headed south for a Culburra Beach surfing weekend!
