We were up early for the US Open take four– as we played Canadian doubles with Eleanor. We had a delicious lunch from V.Richards and said our goodbyes to El and Crom, our fabulous BHam hosts!
On short jaunt to Atlanta, GA we were drawn off the highway by… Shake n’Bake- The Talladega Speedway! We splurge for the museum and track tour ($12 or so), and got to see tons of retired NASCARs (which we learned stands for National Association of Stock Car Auto Racing). But the best part was the tour of the track- where we took pictures on the winners circle and learned that you need to drive at least 75 mph around the turns to avoid sliding down to the bottom of the track.
Back on the road, we headed to Neighbors in the Highlands to meet up with Katie’s high school friends (Nina and Matt) and Dermot’s college friends (Corey and Kortny). Despite the delicious food in Atlanta, we were sucked into Pub Trivia night and decided to stay at the pub for dinner. Our team, the “Vagabonds” learned that pink flamingos get their color from eating plankton and shell fish.
We headed back to Nina and Matt’s house for our second to last night on our cross country trip!
